In Loving Memory of Joan Theresa Kirschner of Guelph who passed away peacefully at Riverside Glen Retirement Community in her 81st year on March 13, 2021. Born a premature twin of barely 3 lbs, Joan entered and left this world with her feisty strength. She was small but mighty, strongwilled and quick to let you know what she thought. Beloved wife of the late Ronald Kirschner, mother of Lori, Susan, Wendy and Michelle of Toronto and grandmother (Grams) to Aaron, Dylan and Lillian. Always a working mom, Joan became a businesswoman in the late 1960s when she and Ron bought Cleaning Village laundromat, establishing R&J Kirschner Ltd. Eventually they purchased two more laundromats and drycleaners and expanded with a linen service. For more than 25 years they worked side by side, were fond of their many customers and subjected their girls to animated conversations at the kitchen table about how to operate their business. Joan had a whimsical, adventurous spirit and a reputation as the fun, young mom on Carnaby Crescent. She didn't care about being popular, offered her opinion on everything and raised her girls to be independent and self-sufficient. Born in 1940, Joan was raised on a chicken farm and delivered eggs on the way to school with her siblings. She spent her life in Guelph, valuing the simple pleasures of home, family, travel and spending time at the cottage in Long Point, Ontario where the family shares many happy memories. She is survived by her sisters Patricia Van Grunsven, Mary Sauer, Deanna Duggan and brothers Gary and John. She is predeceased by her twin sister Jacqueline Bruckman, father John, mother Kay and twin brothers Peter and Paul, who died in infancy. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Riverside Glen, Nichol residence, for providing Joan with such a loving, supportive community as well as Dr. Yogesh Lala at Guelph General Hospital, RN Ashley Robinson and the nurses on the 5th floor for their kindness and exceptional care. A private family service will be held at GILCHRIST CHAPEL - McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph. Those wishing to make a donation in Joan's memory are asked to consider The Alzheimer Society of Canada (1-800-616-8816). We invite you to leave your memories and donations online at: www.gilchristchapel.com and they will be forwarded to the family.
