John Whitley Davis

John Whitley Davis, 85, of Ooltewah, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in Chattanooga, TN.

In 1940, John Davis was born in Lawrenceville, GA, to J.C. Davis and Lou Etta Reid Davis. He was a longtime resident of Sugarhill, GA, where he attended Suwanee School, grades 1-12.

He attended Piedmont College in North Georgia, where her played college basketball. After college, John played baseball for an organized league for many years. John was an athlete and loved all sports. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog and Braves fan and could talk for hours about either team if you had the time. More than that, he loved to coach Heath's little league teams and was Heath and Harrison's biggest fan. One of the last things we were able to share with him in the hospital was that Harrison had made the varsity basketball team this year.

John started his career with Sears Roebuck as the Service Manager, where he worked for 5 years. He later transferred to Xerox, which is where he retired after 32 years. During his time at Xerox, he, Cecelia and Heath lived in Austin, TX, New Orleans and Atlanta.

John's faith was very important to him. He was an ordained deacon in the Shadowbrook Baptist Church in Suwanee, GA, and attended First Baptist Church in Panama City, FL, while staying in Florida.

In 2023, John and Cecelia moved to Chattanooga to be closer to family. During the past year, he and his wife have been residents of Morning Pointe of East Hamilton, where they have cultivated many dear friendships with both the residents and the staff.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Claire Davis. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cecelia Davis; son, Heath (Amy) Davis; and grandson, Harrison Davis; all of Chattanooga.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes and Crematory-Buford Chapel, 201 Morningside Drive, Buford, GA 30518. 770-945-9999
