News Death Notice
POWELL, Cory J. 25, of Monroe, Ohio, died October 31, 2013 as a result of a two year battle with cancer. He was born January 3, 1988 in Las Cruces, NM, the son of David & Sheyna Heismann and Charlie & Debbie Powell. He graduated from Lakota East High School in 2006. He attended college at Morehead State University and was most recently enrolled at Santa Rosa Community College in California. As a child, Cory was involved in the Boy Scouts, soccer, played trumpet and grew up attending Cornerstone United Methodist Church. His passions were nature, animals, travel, music and computer science. At the age of 21, he took a 49-day bicycle journey across the country from Ohio to Arizona. Most recent employment was as a exotic cat caretaker at a refuge in California. Cory's most treasured attributes were his peaceful, accepting, grateful and loving nature towards anyone with whom he crossed paths. Cory is survived by his parents Dave and Sheyna Heismann of Monroe, Ohio and Charlie and Debbie Powell of Queen Creek, Arizona. He also has siblings Jimmy, Sarah & Jacob Powell and Tyler & Hannah Heismann. He also leaves his grandparents, Carol Bradford, of Mason, Ohio; Jim & Polly Powell of Las Cruces, NM; Carl & Shirley Heismann of Monroe, Ohio; and Ernest and Yolanda Lara of Las Cruces, NM. Visitation and Memorial service will be Sunday, November 10 from 2-4 at the Hodapp Funeral Home (6410 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd., Liberty Township, OH). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Cancer Care & Research at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. My condolences to this young man's family. I did not know him but I am sure he was an extraordinary person. Take comfort that he is now in the hands of God and watching over you.
