Edward D. MARMAN Obituary
MARMAN, Edward D. Edward D. Marman, 78, of Wayne, Michigan, passed away on August 2, 2018. Ed was born July 10, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Richard M. Marman and Marie C. Repp. Ed was a 1958 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton. He graduated from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio in 1964 with an English degree and Teaching Certificate. Later, he earned graduate degrees from Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University. From 1965 1970, Ed taught English and Humanities at Graham High School in St. Paris, Ohio. After moving to Michigan he taught English and served as a Librarian in the Wayne-Westland Community Schools where he retired in 1995. Ed's interests were wide and varied. Among them were reading, photography, ceramic tile-making, education, classical and sacred music, pipe organs, cooking, making chocolate, travel, genealogy and all things Irish. He was a Founder of the Metro Detroit Chapter of The Irish American Cultural Institute (Irish Cultural Forum) in 1982 and served as the President for over 20 years. At the time of Ed's death, he had been serving his community as the President of the Wayne Public Library Board since the 1990s. Also during his retirement, Ed served as editor of the Comprehensive Index for Eire-Ireland, An Interdisciplinary Journal of Irish Studies, published in 1999. As a result of that effort, he was invited to speak on the topic at Oxford University in England. Ed is survived by a sister, Nancy Teegarden and a brother, Gary Pickering (Paula); one niece and two nephews; five close cousins and a number of close friends. A Memorial Service celebrating Edward D. Marman's life will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30650 Six Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152. After the Memorial Service, there will be an Irish Wake at the Ancient Order of Hibernians, 25300 Five Mile Road, Redford, MI 48239. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Public Library or Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Please share a memory at www.harryjwillfuneralhome.com.
