Dealie Mae Dodds, 93, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Elmcroft Senior Living in Muncie.
She was born in Lebanon, Missouri on December 8, 1927 to Joseph McKinley Sullivan and Fannie Mae (Farrington) Sullivan. Her parents preceded her in death.
Dealie graduated from Hartford City High School in 1946 and Ball State University in 1968 with her Bachelors of Science Degree. She earned her Master's Degree in Elementary Education and Library Science from Ball State University also.
She married Ronald D. Dodds on June 2, 1946 at First Christian Church in Hartford City. Ronald passed away on October 1, 2017.
Dealie retired from the Blackford County School System in 1989, where she was a teacher at Blackford High School for 24 years. She was sponsor of Library Club and a Class Sponsor. She was a longtime volunteer at the Blackford County Historical Museum. She cataloged Cecil Beson's entire historical book collection at his request. She was an avid genealogist, collecting family genealogical information dating back to 1630. She had an honorary life membership in the Research Club. She was a 4-H leader of The Queen Bee 4-H Club for 14 years and was also leader of Girl Scouts for 6 years. She loved passing her time learning new things, reading and crossword puzzles. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was kind and compassionate and had a heart of gold.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Sue Anne (husband, Alan) Marshall of Bridgeport, MI and Emma Kathryn (husband, Charles) Willis of Springport, IN; son-in-law, James W. Wilson of Elwood; grandchildren, Ronald (wife, Kristine) Marshall, Angela (husband, Matthew) Smith, Abby (husband, Terry) Sella, Jamie (husband, Kirk) Flanagan, Stephanie (husband, Jason) Russ, Amanda (husband, Chris) Thiede and Molly (husband, Andrew) Pearcy; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia J. Wilson, siblings, Josephine Williams, Mary Burton-Fidler, Robert E. Sullivan, Paul Sullivan and Margaret Gilland.
Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City is in charge of arrangements.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service this summer.
