COLEMAN, Alonzo III
Alonzo Coleman III of Covington, Georgia passed on to begin his new journey on Sunday, (August 18, 2013). He leaves behind his loving wife of 22 years Patricia Frazier Coleman, his sister-in law Judith Frazier of whom he was a dedicated caregiver; his children, Dr. Miles Johnson (Dr. Tracy Green Johnson) of Atlanta, Michelle Jackson, and Marcus Coleman of Miami. He also leaves two step-children, William Monroe (Sarah) of Yuba City, California and Meredith Monroe of Phoenix Arizona. He leaves 12 grandchildren who loved him dearly. His family was blended and he loved them all. Alonzo Coleman III was born July 20, 1935. The son of Alonzo Coleman II and Robbie Wood Coleman in Hartford Ct. He graduated from Weaver High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He had a passion for cooking and was one of the first African Americans to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America. He went on to graduate from the University of Miami. He worked in food service all of his life, retiring from the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections as Food Service Supervisor. He was a dedicated Prince hall Mason and was a past Master of Tuscan Lodge #17 Hartford CT, a member of the American Legion Post 142.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The Glory Campaign c/o Springfield Baptist Church. Al fought a great battle..RIP my Love
