Albert E. OTT

OTT, Albert E.

Albert E. "Abbie" Ott, 89, a longtime resident of Plainville, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Bristol Hospital, following a short illness. Born in Bristol on June 3, 1924, he was the last surviving of six children to the late Michael and Matilda (Neski) Ott. He attended Bristol schools, and following graduation from Bristol Technical School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country during W.W. II, and was honorably discharged in 1945. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Emogene Judd, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, raising two devoted daughters. Abbie, as he was known to many, became an accomplished and sought after tool maker, working for the former New Departure, and retiring from A.G. Russell Company in Bristol where he had built and maintained many long term relationships with his fellow shop mates. Abbie was a member of the VFW, and was a founding charter member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Plainville. In the years after his retirement, Abbie became an avid lock collector, often using his machinist skills to refurbish, rebuild, and make keys from scratch to open them. A kind and gentle man, he also enjoyed sharing long stories with his family, vegetable gardening, working in his workshop, playing cribbage, and especially enjoyed listening to his polka music. He frequented local flea markets, and found special joy out of taking the final point in a heated set-back game. He will be greatly missed, leaving many cherished memories. In addition to his wife, Emogene, he is survived by his daughters, Nancy Sewell and her husband, Richard and Debra Treichel and her husband, Al; his grandsons, Jason and Jamie Sewell and Brandon Treichel; and his great-grandson, Tyler Sewell.
A funeral service in celebration of Abbie's life will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville. Committal services with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may gather on Tuesday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Abbie may be remembered with contributions to Grace Lutheran Church, 222 Farmington Ave, Plainville, CT 06062.
