Dennis A. Bonitsky(1948 - 2014)

Dennis A. Bonitsky, 65, of Glastonbury, returned to his Creator following a long illness on January 29, 2013. Dennis was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania on March 3, 1948, the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Becosky) Bonitsky. Dennis attended Penn State University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in parks and recreation. He was hired by the Glastonbury Recreation Department in 1970, working with troubled youth. He spent most of his career, starting in 1977, as the Supervisor of Parks and Grounds for the Town of Newington, retiring in 2009 with the gratitude of so many friends and colleagues. Unable to be idle, Dennis worked part time at the transfer station for the Glastonbury Department of Public Works, which he affectionately called the "acquisition center" because of all the mechanical tinkering opportunities it provided. Dennis was devoted to his loving family, and enjoyed the company of his family pets, especially Inu, Bubba and Izzy. Dennis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan (Kowsz) Bonitsky; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Juri Bonitsky of Tokyo, Japan; his daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Jon Douville of Wethersfield; his sisters Alexis Shipman and her husband Harry of New Kensington, Pennsylvania and her sons, Stephen and Christopher; and Denise Malczewski of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his brother-in-law and his wife, John and Kim Kowsz of Hebron, Connecticut, and their daughters Stacy, Erica, and Lynn; and his sister-in-law, Tricia Neumann, and her daughters, Nicole and Haley, of Earlysville, Virginia. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, February 4th, at 1 pm at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 2183 Main Street. There will be no calling hours. He will be laid to rest privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Church of Christ Congregational, 2183 Main Street, Glastonbury, CT 06033.
