Elwood J. Hannon(1933 - 2014)

Elwood "Woody" J. Hannon, 80, of Lake Suzy, Florida passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 surrounded by his family in Port Charlotte, FL. Woody was born August 25, 1933 in Winsted, CT and moved to Lake Suzy 14 years ago from Newington, CT. Woody was a US Army Veteran who served in the Korean War and was also the Captain of the West Hartford Fire Department for 30 over years. He loved to fish especially with his son and friends from the PA Club in Canada. He was very active coaching his children's sports teams. Woody was a Semi-Professional Soccer player. He enjoyed his summers at their beach house in Old Saybrook. Woody will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, neighbor and friend and will forever be missed by all who loved and knew him. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Charlene (Dee) Hannon; 3 daughters, Kimberly (Chris) Glenney of North Port, FL, Stacey Hannon of Rocky Hill, CT, Tamara (Evan) Bouchard of North Port, FL and his son Michael (Jennifer) Hannon of Milford, NH. Woody was also survived by a sister Eileen (Ron) Bouchard of Farmington, CT; 5 grandchildren, Michael Hurley, Travis Glenney, Courtney Neill, Matthew and Sean Hannon, 1 great-granddaughter Madelena Hurley and many nieces, nephews and his beloved dog Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Catherine (Nash) Hannon, 3 brothers, Harold, Larry and Bobby Hannon and his sister, Delores Battalino. A Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be held at St Mary's Church 626 Willard Ave. in Newington CT. at 10:00 am on June 25 followed by a service at West Meadow Cemetery in Newington.
