ROY, Florence Biruta Florence Biruta Roy, 84, was born March 13, 1921 in Waterbury and lived in Newington for the last 25 years. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing Florence died Saturday (February 11, 2006), at Hartford Hospital, following a startlingly short illness. She is greatly missed by her loving family and dear companion, "Kitty." She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Mary Akelaitis of New Britain. She is survived by her devoted son Donald Roy and his wife Mary, of Stonington; and daughter Dana Chandler of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren Elaine Ciarcia and her husband Michael, Natasha Gajewski and her husband Mark, Holly Bosshard and her husband Daniel; great-grandchildren Elese, Eliza, Marcus, Dana, Reid, Jessica, Charlie, and Chloe. Florence is also survived by her cousin Ruth LaBella. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Brookes officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family at Elaine and Michael's home following the service.
