Jane Bronk Obituary

Jane Moseley Bronk, 84, wife of the late Adrian Bronk, died Sunday, March 21, 2021. Daughter of the Gilbert School's Principal, Henry S. Moseley and Hazel (Arnold) Moseley, she grew up in Winsted, CT. She devoted her entire working life, after graduating from Brown University, then Trinity College, to education. She taught at Windham High, Sedgwick Jr. High, and finally at Loomis Chaffee in Windsor, CT, from 1970-2006, continuing as a tutor there until 2011. In 50 years of teaching English, she had an impact on thousands of students, many of whom she kept up with well into their adult lives. She is probably counting my commas as I write this. Jane loved travel, all things literary, music of many kinds, gardening, entertaining, her Labrador Retrievers, and summers at the Cape. My mom could make a killer apple pie and the best Christmas shortbread cookies on earth, knit a complex patterned sweater, walk out on the bowsprit to grab the boat mooring, play Cole Porter on the piano, and did the NYT crossword puzzle in pen. She leaves behind her daughter, Andrea Barton and granddaughter, Macy Athorne both of Glastonbury, CT, a brother-in-law and his wife, Mitchell and Jeanne Bronk of Milton, MA, a niece Helen Bronk of Cambridge, MA, and nephew Peter, his wife Yuen, and their son Matthew Bronk, of Waltham, MA. We give special thanks to her loving and devoted caregiver of the last 2 years, Winsome Pusey. A memorial service will be held at a later date, and interment in Woods Hole, MA will be private. Those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers may do so to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or by visiting, www.Lbda.org. I would always met Jane & Adrian at New Years in Sandwich MA. - half way between Woods hole & Brewster MA. Sometimes George & I would go to Woods Hole, to sail to the Vineyard on Adrian's boat . Many happy times touring the special attractions in their area of Cape Cod - or visiting their dog. They are both missed.

I have fond memories of Jane. The first time I met her was in Woods Hole in 1983 and it was immediately clear that she made my uncle Adrian very happy. I always enjoyed talking to my new aunt about English Literature and I appreciated her wry sense of humour. Vyvian and I were also delighted that she and Adrian were able to make it to our wedding in Glasgow, Scotland in 1985.
My fondest memories are of visiting Jane and Adrian in Falmouth in 1991 when we came over from the UK with our ten-month-old son, Justin. They were both so welcoming and struck up an instant rapport with Justin. Our stay with them was special and I remember a fine lobster dinner at their house.
The last time we saw them both was at Thanksgiving in Salisbury, CT in 2011 when they kindly drove over to see us on another brief visit to the US. Again I remember clearly how witty and kind Jane was. We send our heartfelt condolences to Andrea and family.

Jane's dedication to her profession, her vast knowledge of her discipline, and her care and concern for her students and advisees was truly admirable. Having an office in the library, Jane and I became good friends, often spending time chatting about school and personal issues. She was a joy to work with, especially on the Summer Reading List, which tested our patience. I will always remember her smile and our conversations. I send my condolences to Jane’s family.
