Carol Goldenthal Obituary

Dr. Carol Goldenthal (December 31, 1919), 98 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Jolene (Bleich) Goldenthal for 72 years. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Moses and Betty (Segal) Goldenthal. Dr. Goldenthal was a graduate of Connecticut State College and was very proud to be a member of the class of 1944 of Yale School of Medicine. While at Yale, he served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He practiced internal medicine and cardiology in Hartford for nearly 50 years after a residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and an internship at Hartford Hospital, where he formed his love for the hospital. He was a respected member of the staffs at Massachusetts General, Mount Sinai and Hartford Hospitals and was the President of the Heart Association of Greater Hartford. He was devoted to his patients and his brilliant diagnoses saved many lives. He loved his family and he shared his love of sailing and skiing with generosity and zest. In retirement he indulged his passion for painting and one of his works became the cover of the June/July 2010 issue of "Connecticut Medicine," the magazine of the Connecticut State Medical Society, and he was given a solo show at The McAuley. He loved people and was always the life of any party. He was a resident of Avon, CT; Sarasota, FL; and Orrs Island, ME. In addition to his wife, Carol is survived by his sons Peter Goldenthal and his wife, Natalie Landro, of Wynnewood, PA and Lance Goldenthal and his wife, Jann, of Raleigh, NC; his five grandchildren Rebecca Goldenthal and Steven Thomas; Sara Goldenthal and Patrick Quinlan; Lillian Carol Goldenthal and Joshua Ho-Walker and their soon to be son; Ariel Goldenthal; and Maddie Goldenthal; and his nieces and nephews and their families Soll, Anne, Leah and Rachel Goldenthal; Richard and Judie Goldenthal, Abby Goldenthal and Peter Bucchianeri, and Aaron Goldenthal; Anne Goldenthal; and Joan, Jason, Willie, Max and Eli Grear. In addition to his parents, Carol was predeceased by his brother Albert Goldenthal and many of his best friends. Funeral services will take place at noon on Wednesday, June 20 in the Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery, 51 Jackson St., Avon, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at Carol and Jolene's longtime home: 17 Wright Dr., Avon. So sorry to hear of the "Doctors" passing. What a great doctor and a great person. My dad was a patient of his in the 60's and I became a patient in the 70's. Will always remember his diligence to his craft as well as the post appointment discussions he would have with me. Obviously the office on Jefferson Street and the décor were without a doubt exceptional to be within (like a museum).

Again our sincerest condolences go out to the entire family at this moment and he is in our thoughts and prayers.

Knowing Carol was one of the great pleasures of my life. I knew him as my father's best and dearest friend for many decades, and he never disappointed me in handing down his wisdom and humor. I love you Jolene!

An excellent physician and a compassionate and kind man with a great sense of humor. And a dear friend of my fathers during his years at the Veteran's Home and Hospital in Rocky Hill. My heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Goldenthal and family.

I was not only a patient of Dr. Goldenthal but a neighbor and his paperboy as a child. I had so much respect for him. He would go out of his way to take care of his patients. I remember one time he made a house call for my father on his way home as my parents lived on Fernbrook Road in West Hartford and the doctor and his wife lived on Fernridge Road. Before that they lived on Fernbel, so I delivered his paper for many years. He was the best doctor I ever had. My deepest sympathy to his family.
