Edward Hotez Obituary



Edward Joseph Hotez, 89, of Bloomfield, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Friday morning at the Hebrew Home, Bloomfield, Connecticut on January 9, 2015. Memorial Services will held at the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105, and he will be laid to rest with full military honors at Beth El Cemetery, 51 Jackson Street, Avon, Connecticut 06001. Shiva will be held directly following his internment until 5:30pm, and thereafter from 6:45pm-9pm. Shiva services will be held at 11 Walker Lane, West Hartford, Connecticut 06117. Eddie was born on May 24, 1925 in Bronx, New York, and attended school in New York. At the age of 18 he joined the US Navy, and at the age of 19 he became one of our youngest naval officers. He was a Lieutenant in the US Navy, and served our country from 1943-1946, where he was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He served onboard a Navy Frigate as a Navigator, Communications Officer, Gunnery Officer, and a Supply and Training Officer. After the military, he attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut where he received a B.S. in General Science. After Trinity College, he attended the Columbia University Business School, where in 1949 he graduated with an MBA in Marketing and Management. Eddie was a business executive, specializing in Office Management, Systems and Procedures, and Cost Controls. He began his career at the Bloomingdales executive training program in New York, New York. In 1950, Eddie married Jean Goldberg, the love of his life, and his wife of 65 years. In 1954, Eddie, Jean, and their first born son, Lawrence moved to Connecticut where Eddie became the Assistant Controller at Connecticut Blue Cross. Eddie worked in the Hartford area all his life for several companies, including the Travelers Insurance Company and the United Aircraft Corporation, Pratt & Whitney Division. He also taught business and marketing courses at the University of Hartford, Central Connecticut State University, and Manchester Community College. Eddie was a beloved father, grand-father, and great grandfather, and is survived by his children, Dr. Lawrence Hotes, his wife Linda, of Sharon, Massachusetts, and their two children Alyssa and Andrew; Dr. Peter Hotes, of Houston, Texas, his wife Anne, and their four children, Matthew, Emily, Daniel, and Rachel; his daughter Elizabeth Kirshenbaum, her husband Warren, of Sharon, Massachusetts, and their children, Marissa, Sammy, and Julia; and his daughter-in-law Andrea Hotes, of West Hartford, Connecticut, and her children Gennifer Lippman, her husband, Josh of Fairfield, Connecticut and their children (his great grandchildren) Ross and Noah; and Todd Hotes, of New York, New York. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Dr. Richard E. Hotes in 2003, which was a seminal heartbreaking event in his life of devotion to his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Hotez, No words can describe the loss of your Dear Husband, Ed, I feel your pain today as I am reading this, you were like a second Mom to me, as Richie & I grew up together. Seeing you at the Pizza place for many weeks was a highlight for me and when you called after my mother's death, thst was so Classy.....I Love You, be well, Always, Skip
