Rosemary McCarthy Obituary

Rosemary J. (Kehoe) McCarthy of Wethersfield, formerly of Glastonbury, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at home with her family. She was the only child of James and Helen (Connor) Kehoe. Raised in Hartford, Rosemary graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy and continued her studies at St. Joseph College (now the University of St. Joseph), both in West Hartford. She married Dennis J. McCarthy of East Hartford and they lived in Glastonbury where they raised their children, James Dennis, Maureen Ann and Stephen Dennis. After raising their family they moved to Wethersfield to enjoy the historic town. Rosemary started her career in the publishing business, first with the Connecticut Law Tribune in Hartford, followed by several small business papers and then joined the new Hartford magazine. When the magazine closed she formed her own company and, together with the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce, began publishing the West Hartford Center Guide annually. With the expansion of Blue Back Square the publication became the Guide to West Hartford The Center & The Square, with its final edition in 2015. Upon the arrival of the Franciscan Friars, Rosemary volunteered her time at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church where she had long been a member. Rosemary enjoyed Mount Saint Joseph Academy reunions over the years and, more recently, their annual luncheons at Rockledge Golf Club in West Hartford. In addition to her husband, Rosemary leaves her son James Dennis McCarthy of Wethersfield, her daughter Maureen McCarthy and husband Alan Schinderman and their sons Connor and Hayden of Chappaqua, NY and her son Stephen Dennis McCarthy and wife Renee and their sons Preston and Parker of West Hartford. The Funeral Mass is private. A graveside service will be on Friday, October 9th at 11:30 am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Glastonbury. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford, CT 06103 to continue their work with all those who rely on their care. Just found out that Rosie passed on October 6. We had been great friends since 7th grade. In recent years, we stayed in touch throughout the year and joined us for a festive shore lunch each August. Her kind and thoughtful spirit will always be alive in our minds and hearts as will the always welcoming Jim, Helen and grandma.

Condolences to Dennis, James, Maureen, Stephen Dennis and the grandchildren Connor, Hayden, Preston and Parker. (Rosie enjoyed our visits to the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme where she would make a beeline for the gift shops to buy things for beloved grand children.)

The many found memories do help to get through heartbreaking times

I was so sad to hear of Rosemary's passing. She was one of my participants in my exercise class. She always was so kind to me and welcomed everyone in our class. She gave me so much support and always had an encouraging word to say. She went out of her way to provide me with valuable information if I was.going on a trip somewhere, as she had so much information about historical places. I will miss her deeply. A wonderful person.

Dear McCarthy family, my name is Lynda Przybylski and I am the owner of Bella Gusta Oils and Vinegars previously in West Hartford Center. My husband Alan and I were so sad to hear about the passing of Rose. Eleven years ago when we opened the shop in WEHA Rosemary was the first person to welcome us with open arms. We had many doubters but not Rose, she was our number one fan and Cheerleader. She always had a kind word and encouraged us through good times and bad. When Rose came into the store we were all so happy to see her and give her a hug. She ALWAYS had a smile on her face and always spoke of her family. Rosemary had a wonderful way of making everyone feel as though they belonged. She will be missed by many. We hope you will take comfort in knowing how much she was loved and how profoundly she will be missed. Wishing you all peace and comfort during this difficult time. With much love we send our deepest sympathy. Lynda and Alan Przybylski

Dear Dennis, I am so sorry for your loss. It's a big loss for me too as Rosemary was a classmate at Mount St.Joseph Academy, class of '53. She was the glue in our class keeping in contact and arranging the reunions. I will miss her.

The tears in my eyes were so bad that I could not read about Rosemary. We were good friends and co-workers with her booklet for West Hartford.
Our sympathy goes to all of her family at the loss of this spirited, wonderful woman.
