William Jonathan Glenney

1946 - 2020

William Glenney passed away peacefully on May 5 following a brief struggle with Covid-19, having endured a history of other health problems over the years. Born in Bridgeport on June 9, 1946, "Uncle Bill" grew up in Coventry (where he was known as Chip), later moving to Manchester before residing at Fox Hill Center in Vernon. Bill was a special person, with the presence of Paul Bunyan and the demeanor of a kitten…unless you made him mad! He worked at Iona Manufacturing, Gerber Scientific, and later at Highland Park Market in Coventry. He never missed a meal or a televised NFL game and was especially fond of the Patriots. He loved and appreciated all people, especially those less fortunate than he. He spent several years as the primary care giver for his mother, Marjorie R. Glenney. He provided her with everything she needed, from medications to morning grapefruit and afternoon tea. They were the dynamic duo. He was predeceased by his mother in 2004 and his father William E. Glenney in 1967. Bill is survived by sister Pamela Gilson and her husband Bob of Smithfield, RI; brother Randall Glenney and his wife Janice of Vernon; sister Kristine Glenney of Farmington; nephews Mark and Matt Gilson and their families of RI; niece Meredith Gilson and her family of MA; niece Allison Glenney and her family of West Hartford; niece Robyn Glenney of Whispering Pines, NC; nephew Travis Glenney-Tegtmeier of Farmington; nephew Luke Glenney-Tegtmeier Nashville, TN; Aunt Gwendolyn and Uncle Jim Keller of RI; numerous cousins; and several grandnephews and grandnieces. Bill's family will be forever grateful to the staff of Fox Hill Center for their loving care in recent years. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to CT Special Olympics.
