QUINLAN, John Matthew

John Matthew Quinlan, "Papa John", 91, of Brunswick, ME loving husband of Claire (Roby) "Mimi" Quinlan for 70 wonderful years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5 with his devoted family by his side. He was born on July 7, 1922 in Hartford, and was the son of the late Matthew and Elena (Lutinski) Quinlan. Formerly of Bloomfield and Old Lyme, (Point O' Woods Beach), John worked for the Schaefer Brewing Company, Hartford and later retired from Franklin Distributors, Windsor.
John had been a member of Kiwanis International, Bloomfield. He was a corporal in the Army Air Force, serving during World War II as an instructional gunner. He was both an avid gardener and sports fan, finding time to garden in every season and follow various amateur and professional teams, especially basketball and baseball. He was an enduring student of history, always interested and curious to understand world events. His greatest pastime was restoring furniture or antiques. And over the years he acquired a huge collection of clocks. He loved to travel and traveled extensively in the USA, Hawaii, Europe and Puerto Rico. He is survived by his wife Claire of Brunswick; two daughters, Sandy Potholm and her husband Chris of Harpswell, Deb Quinlan of Orr's Island; a brother Conrad Quinlan and wife Marie Ann of Hebron, a sister Rosalee Spillane of Newington; two grandchildren, Erik Potholm and his wife Erica of Alexandria, VA and Heather Davis and her husband Bruce of Harpswell; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews
Friends and family may visit from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, November 13 at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, November 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, McKeen Street, Brunswick. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Brunswick.
