Alan Nahum Obituary

Dr. Alan Mark Nahum, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and brother extraordinaire, passed away in La Jolla, California on November 10th, 2018. Alan grew up in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from Weaver High School. He then became a graduate of Yale University and Tufts University School of Medicine. After a distinguished career as a head and neck surgeon, educator, speaker, author, and being listed as one the eight most outstanding doctors in San Diego, Alan became Professor Emeritus of Surgery at the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine. He was one of the nation's leading experts in biomechanics and medical issues relating to injuries from accidents. He won many awards for his significant contributions in the field of biomechanics. He was also the author of 200 articles and edited three books on the topics of trauma surgery, accidental injury and biomechanics. In 2004, he became a special advisor to Galen Capital Group LLC, a merchant banking firm dedicated to the healthcare industry. On a personal level, Alan was above all else a family man. Nothing gave him more pleasure than being surrounded by his immediate and extended family for our wonderful reunions in La Jolla. His wicked and wry sense of humor was relished by all and his kindness, compassion and generosity were surpassed by none. Alan leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Victoria; his children Julie (Bob), David and Bob (Kathy) and their partners; his grandchildren, Brandon, Carsten, Marley, McKinley and Berkley; his nephews, Roger, Andrew and Jason; great nieces, Ruby, Emerson and Rowan; his great nephew, Max and his sister and brother in law, Tyba and Edwin Geller. Burial was private in La Jolla.
