Albert Henry Riese, Jr., 85, of Shore Rd., Old Lyme, died in CT Hospice, Branford, Tuesday, (July 2, 2002). He was the companion of Marion Wells of Old Lyme; father and father-in-law of Liz Riese and Mark Daly of Arlington, VA, and Madison, Alida deForest of Glennallen, AK, Barry and Charlene Cole of Encampment, WY, Hobart and Nancy Truesdell of Riverside, and Jane and John Ellis of Lynnfield, MA. Also survived by ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Predeceased by a sister, Esther Riese. A resident of Guilford and Madison for 50 years, Mr. Riese, an architect who practiced with Douglas Orr in New Haven and later with Hugh McK.Jones, late of Guilford. Mr. Riese received his Masters of Arts degree from Yale School of Art and architecture in 1947, following three years of military service in the U.S., France and Germany. He sat on the Madison Zoning Board of Appeals during the 1960's and 70's. He held the position of associate director of space allocation and facilities planning at Yale from 1966 until his retirement in 1990. He was a fellow of Berkeley College at Yale. He demonstrated considerable expertise in his several avocations, which included stamp collection, model railroads and U.S. military history. A Memorial service will be held TODAY, July 6, 2 p.m., in the First Congregational Church, 2 Ferry Rd., Old Lyme. Private burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich. Arrangements in care of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.
