Anne Stamatellou Obituary

Anne Stamatellou, 86, of Rocky Hill, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Anne was born in Hartford on August 3, 1928 daughter of the late George and Anna (Stamatakis) Stamatellou. She loved being raised in Hartford and was a resident there until she moved to Rocky Hill in 1974. She graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1946 and soon after began working in the statistical department at Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA) where she worked for 44 years. Anne was a member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and very active in the community. She was also a member of the Philoptochos Society, Daughters of Penelope, Connecticut Historical Society, Wethersfield Historical Society, Greek Seniors Club, Rocky Hill Stepney Seniors, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and Goodspeed Opera House. She loved Broadway shows and New York, the Hartford Jazz Society, symphonies and concerts at the Bushnell. Anne ushered at the Hartford Stage, the Bushnell Memorial, and the Producing Guild. Anne loved to travel all over the world. She enjoyed her days at Sound View in Old Lyme as well as her time spent in Florida with Lisa, Angel, Alexa, and Nicholas. She loved to sew and knit and made many of her own clothes. She also enjoyed bowling and baseball games. As she got older she reflected more and more on her wonderful life: her great parents, friends, and childhood. Anne is survived by her sister Despina Botham and husband Leon, and her niece Lisa Alsina and husband Angel Alsina, MD., and their children Alexa and Nicholas. Calling hours will be held Friday, January 2, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke., Wethersfield, with a Trisayion service at 6pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 3, 2015, 11am, at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave., Hartford, with the Rev. Dr. George Zugravu officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave., Hartford, 06114.
