Anthony G. Chambers Sr. Obituary

Anthony G. Chambers, Sr., 88, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Barbara (Bayon) Chambers, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Chatham, MA. Born in Needham, MA to the late Ralph and Anne (O'Shaughnessy) Chambers, he attended Monseigneur Coyle High School in Taunton, MA and graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson. He earned his bachelor's degree from UMass Amherst where he met his wife of 62 years, Barbara. As a member of the UMass football team he was named Little All-American in 1952 by the Associated Press and in 1980 he was inducted into the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame. He continued to pursue his passion for football as a NCAA Division 1 official for 35 years. Tony, as he was known, served his country proudly as a First Lieutenant with the US Army during the Korean War. He lived in Bloomfield for 49 years and was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish. Following 25 years in management with Friendly Ice Cream Corporation he owned and operated O'Shaughnessy's Restaurant in West Hartford. Besides his wife Barbara of Bloomfield, he is survived by his son Anthony G. Chambers, Jr. and his partner Erin Fitzgerald of Sherborn, MA; his daughters, Lisa Barrett and her husband Timothy of Boston, Sarah Genck and her husband Timothy of Peterborough, NH, Mary Beth Tryon and her partner Joseph Usewicz of West Hartford and Amy Gordon and her husband John of Manassas, VA; his grandchildren, Colin (Megan), Molly (Marco), Lauren, Caitlin, Patrick, Kevin, Kyle, Alexander, Sam, Natalie, Kelsey, Abigail, Ian and Samantha; his great-grandchildren, Charlie and Oliver. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Melissa Joan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 14 at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave Bloomfield, followed by burial in Mt. View Cemetery, Bloomfield. His family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM.
