Barbara Hartman Tucker, 72, of Newington, died Friday, June 12, 2015 at Hartford Hospital. She was born July 12, 1942 in Hartford, daughter of the late Howard L. and Mildred (Deady) Hartman and had lived in Paris, France for 8 years prior to returning to Connecticut in 2014. Barbara's career included many accomplishments. Barbara served as the State Deputy Chief Campaign Manager for the Ronald Reagan presidential campaign. She was campaign manager and press secretary for more than 24 State and Federal campaigns including Chief of Staff for Senator George L. Gunther. Barbara also served as Managing Editor of a syndicated news service specializing in legislative reporting; and appeared as a regular panelist on television's "Fourth Estate". Barbara was a lobbyist for Detroit-based Traffic Safety Now, which passed safety belt laws across the U.S., and continued lobbying for education and safety campaigns related to seatbelt usage. She was co-founder and principal lobbyist for a government relations firm that later merged with Evans and Associates. In Paris, she remained active in politics as she founded the Capitol Voice and moderated the monthly "Political Forum". Barbara was a member of Democrats Abroad - France, and was recently re-elected for her second term as Vice-Chair, but also served as the Member-at-Large, Chair of the Energy Committee, Secretary and member of the Voter Registration Team. Barbara had a love for the arts and was once an active member of the Connecticut Opera Board. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Coleman (Craig) and her children Connor and Katie of Clarksville, MD; her son, Garrett Todd Tucker and his children Blake, Alexis, Dalton, and Brooklynne of Fort Smith, AR, and her dear family friend, Fr. Michael Whyte, St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Simsbury. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 23rd, 11AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road in West Simsbury. Inurnment will follow in the Sycamore Mausoleum in the Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), 501 Front Street, Norfolk, VA 23510.
