Christopher P. CARTER Sr.

CARTER, Christopher P. Christopher Plumb Carter, Sr., of Essex, Connecticut, beloved husband of Rhonda L. Carter, passed away peacefully on Sunday, (August 1, 2010), at 70 years of age. He was born in Tarrytown, New York on September 26, 1939, to the late Robert I. and Dorothea P. Carter. He grew up in Essex and Old Lyme. Chris completed his secondary education at the Mohonk School and the Darrow School, and graduated from Hobart College with a degree in English. After graduation, he moved to New York City, where he began his career in advertising, first working at Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics, and later at Macmillan Publishing. After retiring, he returned to live on Main Street in Essex. Chris was an avid athlete, enjoying tennis, golf, sailing, ice skating, and cycling. He was interested in politics and business affairs, and read extensively. Besides his wife of 25 years, Chris is survived by his son, Christopher Plumb Carter, Jr., his daughter-in-law Cathy Carter, and his two grandchildren, Margaretta (Meggie) and John (Johnny), all of Old Lyme; and his sister Cynthia Nichols and brother-in-law Leslie Nichols of Irvington, New York. He is also survived by his devoted dog, Gretel. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Chris's name to the Valley Shore Animal Welfare League, P.O. Box 1134, Westbrook, CT 06498.
