LIM, Clara Pui-Ping (Chan) Clara Pui-Ping (Chan) Lim, born October 8, 1934, died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Saturday, (August 1, 2009) at the age of 74 after a sudden and brief illness. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Clara attended Kowloon True Light Middle School and Chung Chi College in Hong Kong where she graduated in 1958. Clara came to the United States in 1961 for post-graduate studies at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Oh and later joined husband, Chin-Yeang Lim, at Syracuse University in New York, where both received a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1970. Clara lived most of her life in Longmeadow, MA as a professor of mathematics and computer information systems at Westfield State College, University of Hartford and lastly Western New England College, School of Business where she retired in 1998. Clara truly enjoyed her retirement, travelling as often as she could to various tourist destinations within the U.S., Europe, China, Australia, and New Zealand. Since 1999, Clara and her husband have lived in Suffield, with their only daughter, Janet Lim Werenski and her husband Andrew. Clara took great pride and joy in her role as a grandmother and caregiver for her two grandsons in their early years. As the boys grew older, she balanced her love of travelling, visiting with family & friends, remodeling projects and cheering at her grandsons' sporting events. Besides for her husband of 46 years, she is survived by her daughter, Janet Lim Werenski and husband Andrew; beloved grandsons, Jason and Aidan of Suffield; mother Wong Yuk-Ying Chan; sister Patsy Pui-Ngan Ho and husband Yui-Lun; brother Wang-Fan and wife Helen, all of Hong Kong; sister Amy Wolsdorf of Bellingham, WA; sister Paula Gnepp and husband Steve of Cleveland, OH; brother Lawrence Chan and wife Anita of Vancouver, B.C.; and nieces and nephews: Irene Ho, Arlene Ho, Aida Chan, Felix Chan, Andrei Gnepp and Trudy Chan. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 11 a.m. at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. (Rt. 159) Suffield. Her family will receive friends prior to the service, 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, 34 Lower Westfield Rd Holyoke, MA 01040.
