Clarence Edward "Toppy" Williams, Sr., of Hartford, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2019. Son of the late Allen Williams and Lovie (Countryman) Williams, Toppy was born in Hartford on March 8, 1924. In 1946, Toppy married the love of his life, Kathleen (Sanders) Williams (deceased). After graduating from Weaver High School, Toppy enlisted in the US Navy and honorably served during WWII. He was employed as a Sheet Metal Operator for 34 years at Pratt & Whitney retiring in 1984. Toppy was truly a dedicated servant of God and a great and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, and mentor to all who knew him. He loved the Lord and dedicated his life to Christ. Toppy loved to have fun; he enjoyed swimming, playing horseshoes, and his favorite past time of all...was 'Spinning Tops.' He touched the lives of many people with his infectious smile, generous spirit, and loving personality. Toppy was devoted to his faith, and passionate about his love for his family and his friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, Kathleen; daughters, Lillian and Josephine; brothers, Elijah, Elridge, Otis, Allen, Eddie, and Roger; sisters, Elizabeth, Lillian, and Lois Mae. Toppy leaves to cherish his rich and loving memories: brothers, Rev. Lloyd Williams and Henry (Nip) Williams of Hartford, CT; daughters, Delores (Theodore) Ravenell of Eutawville, SC, and Brenda Williams of Windsor, CT; sons, Daniel Sanders of Bronx, NY, Clarence (Carmen) Williams of Bloomfield, CT, and Charles (Rev. Dr. Denise) Williams of Hamden, CT; sons-in-law, James Mayo of Bloomfield, CT and Clyde Frank Mitchell of Windsor, CT; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other adoring relatives and friends.Toppy's celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 14, 2018 at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor, CT with viewing and visitation from 9 - 10:30 a.m., followed by a homegoing service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will be held in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT immediately following the service.
