GOODWIN, Dorothy Cheney Dorothy Cheney Goodwin of Bloomfield, formerly of Mansfield, India, Tokyo, Washington, D.C. and Hartford died peacefully at home on Sunday (June 10, 2007). She was born in Hartford on September 2, 1914, daughter of Charles Archibald Goodwin and Ruth Cheney Goodwin. She was most recently the state representative for the 54th district in the general assembly where she served five terms. Prior to that she was assistant provost at the University of Connecticut in charge of university planning. As well she was a professor at the university having earned her doctorate in agricultural economics there in 1957. During World War II she served as a U.S. senior intelligence officer in India. She then worked with the occupation of Japan. She graduated from Smith College in the class of 1937. Throughout her life she made generous contributions to a variety of causes in Connecticut. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Goodwin Cobb, of Fenwick and Delray Beach, FL, as well as numerous relatives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women's Education and Leadership Fund at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, 06117. A memorial service will be held on June 14 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 120 Sigourney St., Hartford, CT 06105 at 11 a.m.
