Helen T. Molloy Obituary
HELEN T. MOLLOY, 95, of West Hartford and Bloomfield, died Saturday, March 2, 2019, after a long and loving life as an aunt, educator, adventurous traveler, and avid gardener. Helen taught in the West Hartford School system for 45 years, most notably, as the 5th grade teacher (basement classroom) at the old Charter Oak School for most of her career, also teaching at Whiting Lane and Duffy Schools. She earned her bachelor and master's degrees from the Teachers College in New Britain, now Central Connecticut State University. Helen was a lifelong lover of education, American history, world traveler across Europe, the Middle East and South America, skiing, and friendships. Helen recorded all on film for her classes and relations. She will be remembered by her nieces and nephews as their personal guide throughout the United States and a lover of books. One of her fondest memories was walking through Kennedy Airport with snow skis and boots on her shoulder, one July, for a trip to ski in Chile and Peru. She was a member of the Catholic Graduates Club, a founding investor in the Killington Ski Corp., and a proud member and past officer of Delta Kappa Gamma Mu Chapter. Post retirement she volunteered at UConn Extension in Bloomfield in their garden area, answering the public's' questions regarding gardening. Helen was predeceased by her brothers, Bill Molloy (Mary Marie), Dr. Robert Molloy (Lorraine), and her sister Jane Molloy. She leaves her 15 nieces, nephews, and their spouses;Sarah Riley (Bill), Ann Molloy (Ken Stillman), Randy Molloy (Eileen), Bob Molloy (Kristine Schmidt), John Molloy, Katherine Spencer- Molloy (Frank), Patricia Teich (Mark), Stephen Molloy (Patricia), Mike Molloy, Jean Palin (Michael), Jane Petroski (Larry), Elizabeth Molloy (Charlie Gill), Mark Molloy (Jean), Peter Molloy (Laura Powell), Greg Molloy (Anne Campbell, fiancée). She also leaves 22 grand nieces and nephews and their spouses, and 13 great grand nieces and nephews. Friends may gather Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10:00 am. in Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave. Bloomfield, CT, for the celebration or her Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, CT. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church Food Bank, 872 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, CT 06119.
