KUSIO, Helen Y.

Helen Y. Kusio, 58, of Amherst, NY, died Thursday, April 19, in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga, after battling pancreatic cancer for more than 11 years. Born in New York City, Ms. Kusio and her family moved to Granby, graduating from Granby Memorial High School in 1972, and was an active member of the Ukrainian community in Hartford. She graduated from University of Buffalo (UB), State University of New York, in 1988. Ms. Kusio was a chartered life underwriter and a financial planner, was president of the Charter Oaks and Chappelle Villas Condominiums and was active on many committees. She also was the first president of the Kiwanis Club of the Boulevard in Amherst, NY. She was music director at the 9 a.m. Mass at the UB Newman Center and took part in many activities there. Ms. Kusio is the beloved daughter of Myroslawa "Myra" (nee Fedyk) and the late Theodore Kusio; loving sister of Anita Szahaj, her husband Zenon, and their children Michael and Lonnie; dear brother Ted and his wife Kate; and sister to the late Susan-Kate Kusio.
Weather permitting, funeral services will be held at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hartford on Wednesday, April 25, at 10 a.m. She will be buried later that morning in Granby Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's name to Roswell Park Cancer Institute or Hospice Buffalo, Inc.
