Henry (Hank) Voorvaart, 65 of Lebanon, CT passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan 26, 2020 after a swift cancer battle, with his loving wife of 35 years, Sharon McElhanon Voorvaart, by his side. Hank, the eldest son of surviving parents, John & Patricia Voorvaart of Simsbury, CT also leaves his daughter, Rachael Voorvaart Johnson, Son-in-Law Dustin Johnson and 2 grandchildren, Jacob and Railynn; daughter, Chelsea Voorvaart; sisters Lisa Voorvaart and Tara Derouen (Michael), brothers Peter Voorvaart (Darla); Bill Voorvaart (Christina), Sister-in-Law, Janet McElhanon (Douglas Angelini); Brother-in-Law, Jim McElhanon (Fernanda) and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Rose Voorvaart. He was an alumni of Simsbury High School, Class of '72. His lifetime career was spent in the fire alarm and detection industry. He was Owner/President of Alarm Applications Inc. for 45 years and simultaneously founded a sister company, The City Master Box. Hank was an avid and passionate sailor whose lifetime delight was spent sailing the open waters off Pt Judith, RI on his various Hobie-Cats; manning J-boats out of Newport or cutting through the Caribbean-blue seas on a large catamaran. In addition, he and Sharon enjoyed quality kitchen-time preparing homemade meals from the bountiful goodness picked from their huge garden. In his last few months he was overwhelmed by the love and support bestowed upon him and his wife by their vast array of friends, many spanning several decades, coming both near and far. All the shared memories and laughter kept a smile on his face. In respecting his final wish, there will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury CT on March 8th at 11am. When the warm easterly winds grace a Narragansett-blue sky, loved ones will gather for a celebration of his life as his ashes are scattered off the outside break wall of Pt Judith, where it opens wide to the sea.
