On May 11, 2021, Ignacio "Nick" Agramonte, passed away at home surrounded by love. Nick was diagnosed with cancer a little over a year ago and even when the treatments made him ill, he never lost his love of life, his humor and his empathy. He always tried to make those around him feel better. Nick displayed courage, dignity and grace until his last day. Nick was born in Mexico and was only 6 months old when he came to the United States with his parents and siblings. Nick lived in Newington and West Hartford most of his life. He graduated from Conard High School in 1981. Nick loved football, playing for Conard and he still holds the school record for most sacks in a single game. Nick was also on the wrestling team at Conard. Nick was a lifelong Steeler fan. At the age of 13, he watched Super Bowl X with his siblings Lidia and Tom, and picked the Steelers to win. From that day forward, he cheered his team through good and bad seasons. Nick entered the U.S. Marine Corps when he graduated from high school. Following his discharge, he went to technical school for plumbing. Nick was a very hard-working man, he loved what he did, and he continued to work throughout his first rounds of chemo. Nick was a man that loved life with a passion, and loved his family and friends deeply. He was funny and always made us laugh. We will miss his booming voice, his funny faces, and his wonderful hugs. The world seems a little darker without him, but he will always be a bright light in our hearts. Nick is predeceased by his parents Tomas Agramonte II of Mexico and Georgina (Sanchez) Agramonte of Cuba. Nick leaves behind his beloved son Nicholas Agramonte and his wife Jacqueline, three grandchildren, Nicholas, Kaydence and Savannah, his beloved fiancée and soul mate Lauren Bachner and her children Nicolas and Daniella and her granddaughter Aiyana, who called Nick "Puppy Boy" for his puppy eyes. Nick also leaves his four siblings: Georgina Pennie and her husband Robert, Lidia Agramonte-Gomez and her wife Maria, Thomas Agramonte III and his wife Denise, and his sister Audrey DeMarinis and her long-term partner Peter Pedula and his half-brother Gustavo Portundo and his wife Shayne. Nick also leaves his nephews Tommy and Anthony and his nieces Jennifer, Jessica and Stephanie. Nick also leaves his much-loved dog Nika. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Smilow Cancer Center for the care and compassion they provided to Nick. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. followed immediately by a service at 6:30 p.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Tom, I’m so sorry to read the passing of Nicki. The only reason I know is my 24 year old daughter and I were talking about people we have loved in our past and I googled you and Nick came up. Nick was a one of a kind. People loved to be around him. I have never been to the St. Patrick’s day parade like we slayed in the 80,s. Never will be as much fun. You me and Nick and Audi!! I’m so sorry for all of your pain. I just went through this 3 weeks ago with a bestie. God bless you all.

Tom, first I say I’m so sorry for your loss. Nick was fun, always smiling and someone you love to be around. I know of his passing by talking with my 23 year old about old loves. Then I, yes I googled Tom, and Nick came up. I will never be at New Havens St Patrick’s day parade and ever have as much fun.Nick broke the mold on that!! Tom, Audrey, Lidia, Georgina, so heartbroken for you. I know your loss. Keep each other close. I believe in serendipity and this is definitely the case. What else could it be. All my thoughts to you all.Nick is in the arms of the angels

Nick was quite the guy! We are going to miss all the good times we had with him. Fond memories of the music festival in Montreal, watching fireworks, cookouts and other holidays. His kind and loving heart always willing to lend a hand on house projects, his love of animals and his great sense of humor. Most of all his booming voice and his "infectious laugh" Our heartfelt condolences to everyone in his family. Until we meet again dear Nick. Love Karen & Steve

Jacqueline and Nick, we are sorry to hear of your loss. Although we did not know your dad, he sounds like a wonderful person. Cancer is a deplorable way to lose anyone but know that he is resting comfortably now and cherish the good memories with him.

Nick was a good friend back in high school. Amongst other things we played football together. Those were some interesting times. One question - did Nick still have the 3 foot light we “found” one Friday night?
