Jane F. Skehan Obituary
Jane Sullivan Fitzgerald Skehan, of Hebron, born March 25, 1932, beloved wife of Willard "Bud" Skehan for 43 years, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Jane was the daughter of the late Timothy F. Sullivan and Madeline (Keenan) Sullivan of East Hartford, CT. She attended St. Mary's School in East Hartford and East Hartford High School, Class of 1950. She earned bachelor's, master's and sixth year certificate degrees, all from the University of Connecticut. Jane was a lifelong educator, working in the East Hartford school district as a social studies teacher, K-12 department head and vice principal of George J. Penney High School. Jane also worked for the East Hartford Park Department and East Catholic High School. She was a passionate reader, cook and traveler. She and Bud traveled extensively throughout the U. S. and abroad, immersing themselves in the culture and customs of new places. Their most memorable times were spent in Paris. Jane delighted in passing on her passion for learning and travel to her children and grandchildren, often remarking how proud her own grandmother, who had come to the U.S. from Ireland alone at age 16, would be of all of them. Besides her parents, Jane was predeceased by her first husband, Richard P. Fitzgerald; a grandson, John F. Scully III; a sister, Doris Miller; and two brothers, Richard J. Sullivan and Lt. Francis T. Sullivan. In addition to her devoted husband Bud, Jane will be dearly missed by her loving children, Diane M. Fitzgerald (Kevin McKenna), Carol F. Scully (John), Mark Fitzgerald (Carol), and step-children Mark Skehan (Teresa), Kevin Skehan, Kathleen Skehan and Timothy Skehan (Brenna). She also leaves a sister-in-law, Anne K. Sullivan, and many devoted grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.A service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick - Saint Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford, CT. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The House of Bread, 1453 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06120 or to an organization of the donor's choice.
