Jerzy George Budnik, 66, of East Hartford, beloved husband for 40 years of the late Ewa Zofia (Zadurski) Budnik, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2018, surrounded by his children at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Sokolka, Bialystok, Poland on February 19, 1952, son of the late Czeslaw and Emilia (Dudziuk) Budnik, he was raised in Poland and was a graduate of Technikum Mechaniczne where he studied to be a machinist. In 1987, Jerzy and his wife immigrated with their family to the United States and settled in Hartford. After two years, they moved to East Hartford where he had lived for the past 29 years. Most recently, Jerzy worked as a machinist at Flanagan Industries in Glastonbury until his retirement in 2017. As a young man, Jerzy served in the Polish Army and was honorably discharged as a corporal. After moving to the United States, Jerzy joined the Polish Army Veterans Association of America in Hartford where he held various leadership positions over the years and was currently serving as the Commander of PAVA Post #119. He was a longtime parishioner and devoted choir member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford. Jerzy loved music and he also sang with the Padarewski Choir in New Britain and more recently with the Moniuszko Choir in Hartford. Most of all, Jerzy will be remembered as a selfless and hardworking father who was devoted to his family and to his community. To his children and to his family he was an expert at everything and was always there to help with his incredible sense of humor. He leaves two sons, Rafal Budnik and his wife Nicole Mule of Manchester and Marcin Budnik and his fiancé, Kelsey Huss of Corona, CA; a daughter, Michelle Budnik of East Hartford; a sister, Zosia Bieniek and her husband Henry of Hartford; a brother, Andrew Budnik and his wife Elizabeth of Columbia; and three grandchildren, Penelope, Brian, and Jason. His family will receive friends on Thursday, June 14, 4-8 p.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, 43 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford.
