John B. Traynor, 85, of East Hartford, loving husband of 54 years of the late Moira (Divane) Traynor, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 surrounded by his caring family. Born in County of Offaly, Ireland on October 28, 1929, a son of the late William and Kate (Terrell) Traynor, he had resided in East Hartford for over 50 years. John was a veteran of the Irish Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Edenderry Gaelic Football team and was selected to the "All Ireland Team". Upon arriving in the United States, he played on the New York Gaelic Football team. He later used his experience and assisted with Youth Football in the East Hartford area. A devout Catholic, John was a former communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford where he was a member their Social Club. He also attended daily Mass at Our Lady of Peace and Blessed Sacrament Churches in East Hartford. John volunteered many years delivering bread to the Homeless Shelter and with Meals on Wheels to area residents. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #3901, East Hartford and enjoyed gardening (especially his tomatoes) and working around his yard and home. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a Machinist by Whitney Chain Manufacturing Company, Hartford for 20 years and Quality Name Plate in Glastonbury for 25 years. John is survived by a daughter, Nancy M. DuVerger and her husband, Felix, of Glastonbury; two sons, William J. Traynor and his fiancée, Shari Shojaey, of Glastonbury, John K. Traynor and his wife, Jennifer, of Ellington; two special sisters-in-law, Ann Traynor of East Hartford, Mary Traynor of Enfield; nine cherished grandchildren; many adored nieces and nephews; and several dear friends. Besides his beloved wife and parents, John was predeceased by seven brothers, Mike, Stan, Austin, Frank, Kevin, Vincent, and Liam Traynor; and one sister, May Flynn. Funeral service will be Saturday (January 17th) at 9:30 am from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Peace Church, May Road/Brandon Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, (Section H), East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday (January 16th) from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to St. Christopher School, 570 Brewer Street, East Hartford, CT 06118.
