John J. Bohuslaw, 88, of Avon, beloved husband of Joanne Reilly Bohuslaw for 32 years, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018. Son of the late John and Agnes (Gill) Bohuslaw, John "Jack" was born and raised in Bayshore, LI, NY. He graduated from Xavier High School, NY City, where he excelled as a member of the debating team. He received his BS Metallurgical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic and his MA Communications from the University of Hartford, defending a thesis, "Effect of Computers on Creativity." Following service in the US Army as a second lieutenant, he began his business career with General Electric in Philadelphia. Over the next 13 years, he progressed to management positions in marketing and international new ventures. Subsequently, Pratt & Whitney Div. of United Technologies in East Hartford recruited Jack as Vice President – Marketing, and he eventually directed an award-winning staff of writers, photographers, artists and video producers. Later he began a new career, fulfilling a life-long dream of becoming a writer. Following a stint at the Farmington Valley Herald, he found a home in the Archdiocese of Hartford, serving as Feature Editor of the Catholic Transcript. He particularly enjoyed covering religious events and doing in depth stories about parishes. In his spare time, Jack authored an unpublished novel, "My Name is Kathryn," taught physics and calculus, and read voraciously. Besides his wife Joanne, he leaves a large extended family and a sister Agnes Bohuslaw of LI, NY.
