John M. "Jack" Flynn Obituary
John M. Flynn, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Eileen C. Flynn, died peacefully on December 12, 2018 at home with his daughter, Colleen Sebastian. He was born May 27, 1931 in Mineola, New York, son of the late Joseph and Ellen Lahey Flynn. He grew up in Bellerose, New York and graduated from LaSalle Academy in Manhattan, Class of 1949 and Hofstra University in 1953. He was a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps stationed at Quantico in Virginia. He was married to the love of his life, Eileen, on December 26, 1953 and they eventually settled in South Windsor. He worked for National Gypsum, Robert Drywall and S.G. Milazzo. Jack was a man of strong faith and dignity and would help anyone in need. He was a founding member of St. Margaret Mary Church and the South Windsor Swim Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, supported Catholic Charities by fostering infants with his wife and children. He was active in the St.Vincent DePaul soup kitchen, delivered meals on wheels, was an enthusiastic Yankee fan, avid skier, played volleyball, loved swimming, sailing and numerous other activities. With his kindness and infectious smile, Jack would warm anyone's heart.He leaves behind his children, Kerrie Flynn of Newton, MA, John Flynn and his wife Lydia of Tolland, CT, Colleen Sebastian and her husband, Ashbow of the Eastern Pequot Reservation in North Stonington and Kevin Flynn and his wife Louise of El Sobrante, CA, 14 beloved grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Flynn of Jericho, New York and sister Ann Ostertag on Poughkeepsie, New York. He is survived by his sister Ellen Caracci of Floral Park, New York.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. Margaret Mary Church 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial will be private, at his request. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret Mary Church or St. Vincent DePaul, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor, CT 06074.
