John Riccio Obituary
John Riccio, 89, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. John was a man of great integrity and many talents. He was the devoted husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Treahy) Riccio for 67 years. John was one of five children born to John and Josephine Riccio. He was born on April 5, 1929 in Hartford, CT. He leaves behind his wife, Peggy, a daughter, Kathleen Riccio, of Rocky Hill, a son, John Riccio, of Auburn, Washington, a sister, Norma Barnack, of West Springfield, MA, and a brother in law, Fronz Gaus of New Britain, CT along with many other nieces, nephews and many other close family and friends. John was predeceased by his brother, Daniel, and sisters, Delores and Marianne. John was a very active youth with a love for the water. At Hartford High School, he won the State Diving Championship in the same year he graduated, 1947. Following high school, he entered the United States Army and became a medic during the Korean Conflict. Under the GI Bill, John took part in a 3 year machinist apprentice program and worked for Pratt and Whitney for seven years. Longing to be outside, he left this line of work and joined the United States Postal Service in Hartford, easily making friends with people of all walks of life. Using his machinist and carpentry skills, he remodeled his home and yard, making it a beautiful backyard sanctuary. Friends could always count on him whenever they needed a handy man. Through the years, John's love of the water never waned. He and Peggy spent their younger years skin diving, and later as a family they all enjoyed special times boating in the waters of Rhode Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will held on Monday, July 16th at 10a.m. directly in St. Josephine Bakhita Church, St Elizabeth Seton Campus, 280 Brook St. Rocky Hill. Interment will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Family and friends are invited to the Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at BROOKLAWN 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill on Sunday from 4-6p.m. Donations may be made to The Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
