Kenneth M. Godlash Obituary

Kenneth M. Godlash, M.D. of Bloomfield, CT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 9, 2017. He was 81. Born in Passaic, NJ on December 13, 1935, son of the late Michael and Caroline (Buczek) Godlash. As a child he resided in Garfield, NJ where he was an avid baseball player and followed the Brooklyn Dodgers. He attended St. Stanislauskostka Grammar School and Pope Pius XII High School in Passaic, NJ. After graduation he attended St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ. He went on to earn a medical degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. After graduating he pursued his residency in San Francisco, CA. He then joined the United States Navy as a Lt. Commander and was stationed upon the medical ship U.S.S. Repose during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged he settled in Connecticut where he entered into private practice as in Internist in Bloomfield. While being affiliated with Hartford Hospital he met his wife Lois and they married in October of 1969. Through the 70s, 80s and early 90s he oversaw operations at Hartford Hospital and became the Director of the Primary Care Unit. During his time with Hartford Hospital he helped start the Nurse Practitioners Training Program and was involved with the committee that started the Life Star Program. After his retirement from Hartford Hospital he enjoyed tending to his vegetable gardens, working on his home and traveling with his family. He was also an avid reader, liked to learn new languages and enjoyed his frequent lunches with his close friends. In his later years he split his time between Connecticut and Hilton Head, South Carolina. The most joyous time of his life was spending time with his grandsons. He will be greatly missed and always loved. Ken is survived by his wife Lois, son Christopher and his significant other Hilary Crane and their children Colin, Dylan and Aiden Godlash; his brother Edward Godlash and his wife Barbara; his nephew Fred Godlash and his wife Melissa; his niece Lorene Godlash Jorgensen and her husband John and their children Brooks and Harper; and his nephew Michael Godlash. His family will receive friends on Thursday December 21st from 5 – 8 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave, Bloomfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 22nd at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield, CT. Memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111
