Marcheta J. Pitts Obituary
Marcheta (Betty) Jule Pitts, 90, of New London, wife of the late Clement Pitts, died after a short illness on September 27, 2018 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital surrounded by loving family. Born on February 1, 1928 in Seattle, WA , she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jewel Smith. In her early years, she worked as a nanny and seamstress and at General Motors in Seattle as a bookkeeper. She retired after working at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as a Manager for Barry's Cleaners. She had a great sense of humor, a beautiful smile, and exceptional laugh. She was sweet, kind and very independent. Her greatest happiness was being with family and friends. In her retirement, her passions included dancing, bingo, and selling at flea markets. Marcheta is survived by her daughter Linda Herman (husband Glenn) of Ivoryton, son Larry Pitts (fiancé Susan) of East Granby, granddaughter Melanie Herman (husband Andrew) of Milford, grandson Matthew Herman (fiancé Julianna) of Deep River, granddaughter Lisa Cavallo (husband Daniel) of Mystic, grandson Richard Beyer (wife Monica) of Niantic, Bryan Pitts (wife Trisha) of Tyngsborough, MA, and six great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, Unit 4.1, for their compassionate care of Marcheta and her family. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Elm Grove Cemetery, with internment to follow in the cemetery.
