Marianna Manzoni Camilleri

Obituary Condolences

CAMELL On Sunday, (August 18, 2002) surrounded by her family, the Lord welcomed Marianna Manzoni Camilleri, 90, to His heavenly kingdom and reunited her with her husband, Frank Camilleri. Marianna was born in Palazzolo Acreide in the Sicilian Province of Siracusa to Sebastiano and Marianna Manzoni. She and Frank had three children whom she lovingly raised after her husband's death in 1951. Living in Hartford's South End, she worked as a seamstress for the Hartford clothing manufacturer, L. Coracci, for more than 40 years, the last 20 as foreman. She closed out her career working as a seamstress for her friend, Sal Messina. Her faith in God and her dedication to serving the church were always in the forefront of her life. In addition to her husband and parents, she has now rejoined countless other family and friends in Heaven, including her sister, Domenica "Mickey" (Manzoni) Gionfriddo; and her great granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Camilleri. Marianna is survived by many family members, including her brother and best friend, John Manzoni of Newington; her three children and their spouses, Marion and Paolo Magro of Palazzolo Acreide, Italy, Joanne and James Battaglio of Glastonbury, and Joseph and Patricia Camilleri of Rocky Hill; her 12 grandchildren by birth and good fortune, Guiseppe and Angelica Magro of Palazzolo Acreide, Italy, Gabriella and Francesco Ressa of Ferrara, Italy, Alessandra Magro and Mauro Peluso of Palazzolo Acreide, Italy, Michael and Terri Camilleri of Cromwell, Steven Camilleri of Wethersfield and Amy Vaghini of Enfield, and Janet-Marie Camilleri of Rocky Hill and Craig Harris of Newington. She is also survived by her beloved great granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Camilleri of Cromwell. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by a large extended family and many friends. Marianna's family thanks the staff of Hartford Hospital's Palliative Care Unit, especially Helen and Jose, for their care of her in the last days of her life; and her clergy, Father Paul Kenefick of St. Lawrence O'Toole and Father Jim Shanley of St. Elizabeth Seton. Donations in memory of Marianna may be made in her name to St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave., Hartford, CT 06106, to St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to a charity of your choice. Calling hours will be on TODAY, August 20, at the Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at BROOKLAWN, 511 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, 4-8 p.m. On Wednesday, August 21, the funeral will begin at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence O'Toole at 10 a.m. Immediately following Mass, interment will be at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
