Peter Wertheim

1977 - 2017

Peter Wertheim, 39, of New York City and Sharon, Connecticut, died unexpectedly in San Francisco, California, on May 21, 2017. Beloved husband of Ben Loehnen and beloved son of Mark and Allicia Wertheim, Peter was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on August 25, 1977, and attended the Renbrook School in West Hartford. He returned to the school in 2001, at the invitation of the students and faculty, to address that year's graduating class. He also attended the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, graduating in 1996; Harvard College, graduating in 2000; and the Columbia Business School, graduating in 2010. Peter, a dedicated public servant, worked for the New York City Office of the Mayor as Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development. Previously he worked as Vice President of Development and Finance for the Hudson Yards Development Corporation. Surviving him are his husband, Ben Loehnen; his parents, Mark and Allicia Wertheim, of Madison, Connecticut, and Naples, Florida; his older brother, Paul Wertheim, and Paul's wife, Jayme Dietzen, of San Francisco, California; and his younger brother, Edward "Teddy" Wertheim, and Teddy's fiancée, Eleanor Lee, of London, United Kingdom. A memorial fund has been created in Peter Wertheim's name at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, to support education and other causes important to him: 10 Columbus Boulevard, 8th floor, Hartford, Connecticut, 06106. A celebration of Peter's life will take place on Thursday, June 1, at ten o'clock in the morning at St. Bartholomew's Church, 325 Park Avenue, New York City. The reception is private, by invitation only.
