Phillip E. Swank Obituary

Passed away 01/01/2018 after a long illness, born in Somerset, PA 08/10/1948. He was the son of the late Ray E. and Louvenia (Adams) Swank. Phil is survived by his wife of 41 years Amy (Shaulis) Swank, his beloved daughter Kimberly Swank and his grand-daughter Faith, the light of his life. He is also survived by his brother Ronald Swank and his wife Judy of PA, and many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Phil was a proud veteran of the US Army where he served in Germany, began to learn of his German roots, and became part of BALTA. He became active with the Connecticut German-American community as a member of The Hartford Saengerbund. There he served as board member, Vice President, long term President, and was awarded honorary membership. He was chairman of The Connecticut Staatsaengerbund. In honor of his years of commitment to the German-American community, Phil was awarded the German-American Friendship Award by the Consul General of Germany. Phil was inspired by the history and artistry of timber frame barn building, and was an active member of The Northford Timberframers, achieving the level of Triple Master Barn Raiser. Through his work with this group, he was able to be a part of over thirty beautiful barns, but was also able to help many people affected by issues of organ donation. Over the years, Phil was an accomplished skydiver, skier, drummer, golfer and traveler. He truly enjoyed the beauty and adventure that life offered. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Hartford Saengerbund, 719 North Mountain Road Newington CT 06131 or to The Northford Timberframers Organ Transplant Fund c/o George Senerchia 254 Old Post Road Northford CT 06472. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Phil's life will be held on Sunday January 14, 2018 at 2pm at The Hartford Saengerbund 719 North Mountain Road Newington CT 06131.
