Ralph J. Frank Sr. Obituary
Ralph Joseph Frank Sr., 98, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 after a short illness. He was born on September 20, 1920 in Hartford, CT, and was the son of Michael and Camilla (Piccolo) Frank. A graduate of Bulkeley High school in 1938, he served in the United States Marine Corps in WW II, serving throughout the Pacific campaign and the D-Day Invasion. Upon discharge, Ralph joined the Hartford Police Department, rising to the rank of Lieutenant and ultimately Commander of the Vice and Narcotics Division. Following retirement in 1969, he joined the Connecticut State Police as Special Investigator of Fraud and Abuse, retiring in 1979.He was a musician, an athlete and a prominent duckpin bowler, holding several world records and competing on national television. He served as Treasurer of the Hartford Police Benevolent Association, was a member of the Hartford Police Department Chapter of Veterans' of Foreign Wars, and a Past President of that Chapter. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest alumnus of the HPD. Ralph was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, attaining the prestigious 4th Degree, as well as a noted raconteur. Ralph was respected and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.Ralph is survived by his wife, Corina Frank of Clearwater, FL; his sister, Theresa Stimpson, of Wethersfield, CT; his son, Ralph J. Frank Jr. and his wife, Barbara Burke of Naples, FL; his niece, Judith C. Plourde and her husband, Allan, of Las Vegas, NV; and nephew, Peter Coughlin and his wife, Shirley, of Terryville, CT. He was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Eleanor Frank; his brother, Paul Frank; and sisters, Marie Lemke and Phyllis Coughlin.A private service will be held at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Jude' Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or the Suncoast Hospice in Clearwater, FL.
