Richard J. "Doc" Schroeder, 91, of Berlin, husband of the late Audrey "Mimi" (Glabau) Schroeder, passed away Thursday (July 27, 2017) at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain surrounded by his loving family. A native and longtime New Britain resident, he moved to Berlin in October 2016. Doc was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1944, and immediately joined the US Navy. He proudly served as a "Seabee" in the South Pacific during World War II. An extremely proficient athlete, Doc loved to play basketball, baseball, bowling and golf. He was an avid New York Yankees and UConn Women's Basketball fan. He formerly coached basketball for St. John's Lutheran Church. Richard's family meant the world to him. He leaves his son, Donald Schroeder and his wife Judi of Ft. Myers, FL; two daughters, Cathy Stepina and her husband Floyd of Berlin and Denise Tinnirella of Wethersfield; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Stepina and his wife Louise of Bristol, Jodi Stepina of Berlin, Jason Schroeder and his wife Tracy of Plainville, Mandy Schroeder-Cadrain and her husband Howard of Bristol, Michael Tinnirella and his wife Elle of Brooklyn, NY and Nicholas Tinnirella of Newington; nine great grandchildren, Emma, Aiden, Chace, Kamryn, Kaleb, Dorian, Harlow, Sabrina and MaKenzie; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Mimi, Richard was predeceased by a son, Jack Schroeder. Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday 11 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Monday 5 to 8 PM at Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , 825 Brook Street, I-91 Tech Center Rocky Hill, CT 060067.
