Rita C. Schleker Obituary

Rita C. Schleker (1920-2017) On December 21st, surrounded by her family, Rita died peacefully in her home at the age of 97. She was born on July 20, 1920 to Patrick and Margaret Callan and raised in Sherborn, MA. She went on to attend Emmanuel College of Boston and received a degree in teaching and a minor in chemistry. Continuing her education at St. Joseph's College in West Hartford, Rita began her career as a chemist at Pratt and Whitney where she met Joseph, her beloved husband. Settling in Bloomfield, they raised six children. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church since 1952, served as a CCD teacher and was a member of the Tabernacle Society, Parish Council, and Mother's Circle. She continued her dedication to the community as an advocate for CT convalescent homes, the president of St. Agnes Guild, and a member of the Third Order of Secular Franciscans. With her strong virtues of faith, love, and endless generosity, Rita touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. Truly loved by all, she will be dearly missed. Rita was predeceased by her brother Frankie, her husband Joseph (of 45 years), her son Jonathan, and her daughter and son-in law Christine and Gerry Kilduff. She is survived by her children; Fran Wilson and her husband Bud, Mara Franklin and her husband Mac, Lance Schleker and his wife Joanne, and Seth Schleker and his wife Danielle; along with 24 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren who lovingly called her "Gema"; and two of her 101 first cousins. Visitation will be held at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT on Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service from 7:45 - 8:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave, Bloomfield, CT with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Natick, MA.
