Robert Mather Obituary
Robert F. Mather, 87, of East Haddam, husband of the late Theodosia (Hutra) Mather, passed away peacefully Thursday (January 10, 2019) at Middlesex Health Hospice, Middletown, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Old Lyme, the son of the late Quincette (Goss) Nichols. A veteran of the Korean War, Bob served with the US Air Force. He is survived by three sons; Robert Mather and his partner Diane of Maine, Michael Mather and his wife Mary of Haddam, Stephen Mather and his wife Kelly of Bristol; a brother, Clarence Mather and wife Alice of AZ; a sister Pat Mitchell of Westbrook; four grandchildren; Bethany, Casey, Barbara and Daniel Mather and wife Sydney ;great grandchild Hannah, Sisters in laws Geri Hutra of East Haddam and Mary Herel of Haddam, many nieces and nephews, partner Mary Ann Maturo of Middletown, and loyal companion Trigger. He dedicated years to public service to the citizens of East Haddam: Democratic Town Committee member, Little League coach, Cub Scout Master, one of the original members of the East Haddam Volunteer Ambulance and member of the elite 500 run club, Election Moderator, Board of education member, Commissioner of Planning and Zoning, Eucharistic minister, and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very active, a passionate golfer and was frequently sighted walking on Mount Parnassus Road. He later became an avid setback player at the Polish National Club in Middletown. Funeral services will be held Friday (Jan. 18th) at 9 a.m. from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Bridget of Kildare Church, Moodus. Burial will be in St. Bridget Cemetery, Moodus.
