Russell J. Carlo, 86 of Rocky Hill, CT and Old Lyme, CT, formerly of Wethersfield, CT and Deerfield Beach, FL, beloved husband of Rose Mary Carlo, Died peacefully, Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 at his residence in Rocky Hill with his family by his side after a brief illness. Russ was born June 5, 1928 in Hartford, son of the late Michael & Marie (Maselli) Carlo, he attended local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford and attended the University of Hartford. He was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War, followed by serving a year in the National Guard. He began his career as a licensed land surveyor for the State of Connecticut, retiring in 1979, after 32 years of service. He went onto start his own land surveying company. He was past president of the Wethersfield Lions Club, a member of the Elks Club and a member of the Unico Club. He was also on the condo board at Vista Gardens in Deerfield Beach, FL for many years as well as past president and active member of the Sound View Beach Association. He also was past vice president and active member of the Oaks Condo Association. Russ enjoyed gardening at his beloved cottage in Sound View Beach . His other interests were golfing, bowling and helping others. His easy going and sincere personality will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. He was a loving husband and devoted father/grandfather. In addition to his devoted wife, Rose Mary (Paier) Carlo, he is survived by his three daughters, Phyllis Carlo of Rocky Hill, Rosemarie Rhieu and fiancé Mark Sherer of East Greenwich, RI and Diane Faenza of Rocky Hill. He leaves three grandsons, Daniel and wife Amy Rhieu of Warwick, RI, Stephen Rhieu of East Greenwich, RI and Matthew Rhieu of Scottsdale, Arizona. He also leaves his one granddaughter, Jennifer Faenza of Rocky Hill. Other survivors include his sister Mildred Herms of Rocky Hill, and Betty Carlo, his sister in law of Manchester, CT and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Russ was predeceased by his sister, Carmella Devaney, and his brother, Nicholas Carlo, who passed away just nine weeks prior. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St, Rocky Hill, with a calling hour from 9:30 am -10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Catholic Church, in Rocky Hill, CT at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made directly online to the Melanoma Cancer Research Fund at http://www.melanoma.org/.

Dear Mrs. Carlo, Phyllis, Rosemarie and Diane,

I was so sorry to read of Mr. Carlo's passing. I first him when he worked with my father. Years later I saw him again when I worked in a bank and he was a customer. Mr. Carlo always had a smile on his face and a kind word. I always enjoyed seeing him.It has been several years since I have seem him but have such great memories of interacting with him.

I first met Russ when he worked as my Rodman in 1953 in Barkhampsted.
