It just so happened that Stan and I were in Washington, D.C. on September 11 when calamity struck on the Pentagon and WTC in NYC. We commiserated with each other since we had a lot of time on our hands. It was not possible to leave until the next day. I will always remember how we embraced and said so long at the Union Station in DC

Professor Blejwas taught a class at Alliance College many years ago. We were both in his class which we enjoyed so very much. We were so very sad to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

Dear Lucy,
I am so saddened to hear the news of Stan's untimely death. My own brother died suddenly this past June of a heart attack so I do know some of the feelings that come when death is sudden. On behalf of the nursing community at Capital, I extend our very sincere sympathies to you and to your children. God bless and hold you close at this most difficult time.
All warm wishes, Cindy Adams

Dear Lucy, Carol, and Andrzej,
Regina (whom I called in Poland with the sad news) and I were deeply shaken by the news of Stan's death. He has been a major part of my life since we met a Columbia in 1965. At different times you and he provided me with living quarters in Warsaw and New York, and I taught Carol something in Warsaw that she presumably never forgot.
He was a man of stubborn principle and integrity and did more than most of us in the field to promote Polish studies in America.
Above all, he was a dear and beloved friend. Whence comes such another?

I worked with Professor Blejwas in 1980 when he was working on the oral history report for NPR about non-Jews during the Holocaust. He truly was a dedicated and highly respected man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially the Polish American community.

Dear Lucy,
I write to extend my heartfelt sympathy to you and your children at this time of enormous loss. I remember so well the dinner I had in your apartment in NY so many years ago, and then the dinner that we had in Chicago at the AHA just two years ago. In between Stan was always someone whom I admired and treasured for the way in which he always radiated his friendship, for his impressive achievements as a scholar and teacher, and finally for his unusually admirable qualities as a human being. Please be sure that I am thinking of you in this and the coming days.
