Stanley Francis Peer Obituary


Stanley Francis Peer, 96, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of the late Doreen A. Peer, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Stanley was born in Hartford on March 12, 1921 and was the eldest son of the late Stanley Marth Peer and Lula Frances (Abel) Peer. Stanley was a longtime resident of Wethersfield and a graduated from Wethersfield High School. He attended the University of Hartford (Hillier College) where he majored in mechanical engineering. He worked as a studio engineer at WDRC; during WWII he was sent to MIT to study Loran. Stanley served throughout the South Pacific in the U.S. Coast Guard as a First Class Petty Officer where he worked on mobile Loran units as an electronic technician mate. After being honorably discharged from the war in 1946, Stanley returned to WDRC and worked there until 1950. He and his brother formed a partnership, Peer and Peer Insurance Agency which they owned and operated from 1950-1985. Stanley also served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 47 years where his duties included marine inspections, teaching navigation classes and standing watch at the Old Saybrook Lighthouse. In addition, Stanley proudly served on the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years, retiring as the Lieutenant of Fire Company #3. He also served as the Wethersfield Civil Defense Director from 1960-1965. Stanley loved being on the water and anything that was connected to boats. Most of all, Stanley was a devoted family man and will be missed by his children, Roseanne Peer Fairty and husband, Bruce of Santa Monica, CA, Timothy M. Peer of North Haven, Suzanne Peer Supina and husband, Vincent of Ashford; grandchildren, Timothy and John Fairty, Jenna and Marlena Supina; a great granddaughters, Naomi Jade Hanson and Olivia Chay Fairty, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Stanley was predeceased by his brother Edward E. Peer. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 12 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Burial will immediately follow at Village Cemetery in Old Wethersfield. Calling hour will be Tuesday morning from 11-12 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
