BASILE, William R. William R. Basile, 92, previously of Westfield Street, Middletown passed away peacefully on Monday, (December 27, 2004) in Manchester, TN. William was born Boleslaw on October 7, 1912, to Joseph and Maryann ( Bednarzyk) Basiel in Portland. He was known as "the Mink" in his younger days because of his speed and elusiveness on the football field. He worked a variety of jobs throughout Portland and Middletown and eventually became employed by Wesleyan University in 1958 where he continued to work until his retirement. Bill was a "jack-of- all-trades" and became a fixture at Wesleyan where he acted as houseman for Alpha Delta Phi, Beta Theta Pi and Chi Psi fraternity houses. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Tarallo Basile and his son Kenneth. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Joseph, Charlotte, Cecelia, John and Edward. He is survived by his children, William Basiel and his wife Jacqueline of Manchester, TN, Ronald Basiel and his wife Debra of Middletown, Steven Basiel of Middletown, Elizabeth Testera and her husband Richard of Durham and Joseph Basiel and his wife Bernadette of Durham as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Flickenger of Middletown and his sister, Mary Connelly of Schenectady, NY. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
