Stanley Girard Burk Obituary

Stanley Girard Burk, 89, of West Simsbury, beloved husband of Louise (Tedone) Burk, died Monday, July 7, 2014. He was born November 18, 1924 in Hartford, son of the late Emil and Germaine (Garand) Burk and had been a lifelong resident of Simsbury, spending his summers at Coral Sands Beach in Westbrook. Stan was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Canberra, which was torpedoed by a Japanese airplane in the South Pacific. Mr. Burk was a State of Connecticut Meat Inspector for the Department of Consumer Protection for many years prior to his retirement and had owned and operated Sigourney Burk Food Store in Hartford in the 50's and 60's. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury, a lifetime member of the Simsbury Coon Fish and Game Club, and was a member of the Elks Club. Stan enjoyed fishing, gardening and most of all was a loving husband and father who loved spending time with his family. In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, he is survived by his children, Joseph Burk and his wife Joan of Simsbury, Germaine Hosmer and her husband David of Wallingford, Stanley Burk and his wife Virginia of Madison and Jo Ann Cwikla and her husband Walter of Simsbury; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Herbert and Wallace Burk and his sister, Norma Aliski. The family would like to thank the staff at Dialysis Center in Farmington for their compassionate support. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Thursday, July 10th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Friday, July 11th, 9:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury. Burial will be private.
