Robert L. GOEHRING Obituary


Robert L. Goehring, 83, of Burlington, loving husband for 58 years to Margaret (Smith) Goehring was called to the Lord Sunday morning July 7, 2013, with family spiritually by his side, after a courageous battle with renal cancer at Countryside Manor. Born in Webster City, IA, September 11, 1929, son of the late Ralph and Violet (Chalfant) Goehring, Robert was a 1950 graduate of Stanhope High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on board the Aircraft Carrier Antietam. He work at Aetna Life & Casualty as an HVAC mechanic for 30 years and, after retirement, enjoyed working at Big Lots of Bristol as an inventory pricing manager. Bob and Margaret enjoyed their yearly trips to Iowa and the Black Hills, SD, with his siblings. He loved visiting with his friends at McDonalds of Unionville for coffee. Bob liked spending his nights watching "The Price is Right", Dallas Cowboys and UConn Huskies women's basketball and had the patience to be an avid Red Sox fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children; son Michael and his wife Mary Goehring of Bristol, son Robert and his wife Kathleen Goehring of Haverhill, MA, daughter Ann Marie Goehring of Avon, son Kevin and his wife Linda Goehring of Farmington, daughter Piper Goehring of East Hartford, and son Patrick Goehring and Denise Lewis of Eagle Lake, IA. He is also survived by his two sisters, Carolyn Goehring, and Clarice and her husband Marlon Coghlan of Webster City, IA, as well as his brother Richard and his wife Ann Goehring of Goshen, KY. In addition, he leaves six grandchildren: Taylor, Enya, Melissa, Joshua, Aidan and Trevor, a great-granddaughter, Madison, a niece, Lelia Kim, and a nephew, Daniel Goehring. He will be extremely missed by his family, co-workers, close friends, and all those who were fortunate to have known this kind and gentle man.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Tuesday (July 9) from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Wednesday (July 10) at 9:15am followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 10:00am. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Favarh, 225 Commerce Drive, Canton, CT 06019.
